Had the 11 course vegetarian fine dining dinner at Fu He Hui and overall, the food was very good. It’s a very refined vegetarian dining experience - creative, delicate and beautifully presented. The style here feels slightly different from other vegetarian fine dining I’ve tried before: very clean, calm and almost temple-like, with a strong focus on purity, balance and subtle flavours. I also added on the tea pairing, which came with 4 different types of tea, and it complemented the meal really well. My favourite dish of the night was the Kalimeris noodle - slightly peppery, very fragrant, and perfectly balanced in taste. My second favourite was the morel dish, which had two morels stuffed with different fillings, giving different textures and flavours in one dish. My third favourite was the lily bulb dish, which was very clean, elegant and refreshing, with a subtle sweetness and nice herbal/vegetal notes. The restaurant also seems mindful that some guests may worry they will not be full after the tasting menu, so they offer additional more filling dishes at an extra cost: options included dumplings, mapo tofu with rice, and omelette egg. I asked the waitress to pick for me and she chose the mapo tofu with rice. It was not bad and definitely helped to make the meal more filling. Ambience-wise, the restaurant has a calm and zen setting, with soft music playing in the background. However, the biggest issue with my entire experience was unfortunately the noise. The table right in front of me had 4 guests speaking very loudly throughout the meal, sharing relationship issues and talking as though they owned the place. It really affected the otherwise peaceful atmosphere. To make it worse, the kitchen is located right next to the open dining area, and staff were constantly walking in and out. Every time the door opened, I could hear a lot of clinking, brushing and cleaning sounds from inside - plates, utensils, floor/table brushing, and people in the kitchen speaking very loudly. Combined with the already noisy table in front of me, the dining room felt far less serene than expected for this level of fine dining. Food-wise, Fu He Hui is definitely worth trying for a refined vegetarian meal in Shanghai. But I do think the restaurant should manage the noise level better, especially given the price point and the zen fine dining concept.

Wonderful experience with friends. I always wanted to check this place but couldn’t decide and my friend invited me here with some other friends. The menu is well designed and the food is beautifully prepared, delivering such a delicate flavor. The service was also perfect. The staff did a wonderful job explaining what each ingredient was, even in English, and also managed to adapt to our special situation where one of our guests had to leave early and another one came a bit late. I’m highly impressed by the cooking technique and the great tea pairing as well.
