Shanghai Oriental Art Center

Located in LuJiaZui Financial & Trade Zone of Pudong New Area, Shanghai Oriental Art Center（SHOAC）is one of most significant cultural landmarks of Shanghai. It was designed by the award-winning French architect Paul Andreu. Its overall building area covers 40,000 square meters; from above you will distinguish the five domes of SHOAC. The main entrance hall, the Performance Hall, the Concert Hall, the Exhibition Hall and the Opera Hall form a composition that reminisces a beautiful butterfly orchid in full bloom.

SHOAC is one of 'Nine Major Brands in Chinese Performance and Culture'，and is aiming to become 'leading, Asia-class, world-famous'. It is no coincidence that it is the only theater in Mainland China where Berliner Philharmonic and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra concerts have been held until now. Its ambition of building 'an artistic platform for both the worldwide premiere of Chinese works and the premiere of foreign works in China' is being gradually realized. The 'Chinese Traditional Opera Series', offering traditional Chinese arts and having been held for years now, is ever well received by the public. The Saturday Brunch Concerts, also quite popular among the public, attracts an audience of over 100,000 every year.

The world-wide well-known conductor, Maestro Zubin Mehta visited SHOAC. After realizing the whole operation structure and performance season calendar, he commented, 'I am totally shocked to see such a world-class level art center for music in Shanghai, China! Chicago Tribune also made accomplishments on SHOAC's contribution to China's culture boom,and regarded it as'the catalyst for change throughout the region.'

东方艺术中心坐落于浦东世纪大道的东端，紧邻上海科技馆和世纪公园。从远处看，东方艺术中心像几只紧挨着的玻璃巨碗，而从高空俯视，犹如五片绽放的花瓣，尤其晚上在灯光映衬下璀璨迷人，而演出厅内的装饰更是典雅辉煌。你可以在这舒适典雅的环境中欣赏交响乐、芭蕾、音乐剧、歌剧、戏剧等各种艺术演出，享受高雅的艺术氛围。

东方艺术中心拥有当今国际上最先进的舞台、音响、灯光设备，柏林爱乐乐团与维也纳爱乐乐团两大世界顶尖乐团都在这里举办过音乐会。东方艺术中心是法国著名建筑师保罗·安德鲁的设计杰作，建筑外表采用金属夹层玻璃幕墙，顶部安装了880多盏嵌入式顶灯，当美妙的旋律在音乐厅奏响时，灯光会随旋律起伏变幻。而艺术中心的五个半球体分别为：正厅入口、东方演奏厅、东方音乐厅、东方歌剧厅、展览厅。
