Longhua Temple

Located on the Longhua Road at the south of the city, Longhua Park is famous for the ancient Longhua Temple, Longhua Pagoda, the Evening Bell-Striking Ceremony and the peach blossoms Longhua Temple is the oldest temple in Shanghai for its long history of over 1700 years. Because of the several destructions by the wars, most of the buildings here were reconstructed during the Qing Dynasty.Besides its long history, Longhua Temple is the largest temple in Shanghai. It occupies an area of over 20,000 square meters and the architectural proportion is about 5,000 square meters.

On March 3 of every year, in the season of the peach blossom in full bloom, the traditional Longhua Temple Fair is held ceremoniously.On every spring, people come here to view, fly and draw the dragon, repose their beautiful wishes, and this makes the Longhua Temple Fair become a traditional brand in Shanghai-style urban tourist activities.

龙华寺是是上海地区历史最久、规模最大的古刹，距今已有1700多年历史，寺名来源于佛经上弥勒菩萨在龙华树下成佛的典故。

龙华寺的中轴线上由南到北依次为弥勒殿、天王殿、大雄宝殿、三圣殿、在封闭庭院内的方丈室、藏经楼，共六进殿堂。比较特别的是其他寺庙的第一殿一般为天王殿，龙华寺的第一殿却是弥勒殿，突显了寺庙推崇弥勒的特点。大雄宝殿庄严肃穆，正面是如来佛、文殊、普贤三尊金身，背面是精美的海岛观音像，大殿两侧沿壁刻着二十诸天和十六罗汉。寺的东西两边有钟鼓楼，钟楼内敲钟需另外付钱，鼓楼内置一直径为1.7米的大鼓。东西偏殿有观音殿，另有罗汉堂。在三圣殿东有染香楼和牡丹园。

龙华寺内可以付费吃素斋，因为特别好吃，来龙华寺烧香的游客几乎都会买一碗素面，经常看见排队等候吃素斋的场面。

新年龙华寺有敲钟迎新活动，不少市民都想敲头钟，上头香，以祈得一年的平安。3、4月份有龙华庙会活动，上海有句老话，叫'三月三，上龙华，看桃花'，传说农历三月初三是弥勒化身布袋和尚的日子，为了纪念他，春天桃花开时，龙华寺举行纪念法会，香火旺盛，吸引很多民众和小商贩，形成了现在的庙会。每年龙华庙会都热闹非凡，有舞龙、舞狮表演，老上海街头手艺展示，当地特色美食出售等
