Phenomenal meal after a long day of walking. Really authentic flavours and stellar presentation; excellent service! The tea menu is definitely worth exploring!
Lao Ji Shi’s menu leans heavily into classic Shanghainese flavors, and it shows. Their fish dishes are a standout—fresh, delicately cooked. The dong po rou is a must-order: meltingly tender pork belly with a rich, glossy sauce that balances sweetness and depth beautifully. Equally memorable is the tofu with crab, a silky, comforting dish where the sweetness of the crab elevates the soft tofu into something truly special. Beyond the signature mains, the stir-fried lotus bulb adds a welcome textural contrast to the meal—crisp, slightly sweet, and perfectly seasoned. And of course, their sheng jian bao with flavorful meat that deliver on every bite. Even the simpler dishes, like stir-fried greens, are well executed. Service is efficient and straightforward. Overall, Lao Ji Shi Restaurant offers a genuine taste of Shanghai: hearty, flavorful, and deeply rooted in culinary heritage.
My friend brought us here on a trip to Shanghai to try Shanghai food. We got a set menu and I absolutely loved it. there were many food I have never tried before and the highlight was the deep fried fish head
