Had a wonderful lunch at Sui Tang Li at The Upper House Shanghai. I particularly loved the beautiful private dining rooms and the stunning statement staircase, which gives the restaurant such a distinctive and elegant character. The Shanghainese cuisine was excellent, with the xiaolongbao being one of my highlights. A refined setting, delicious food and a memorable dining experience in the heart of Shanghai!
Sui Tang Li was a beautiful Chinese restaurant with very polished hotel feeling. The food was elegant and modern, but still had Chinese flavor and comfort. I liked that every dish was not too heavy, and presentation was very nice. The room has calm atmosphere, so it is good for business meal, family dinner, or special lunch. Service was professional and I felt relaxed during the meal. 上海らしさも感じる良いレストランです. I think this is a nice choice when you want Chinese food but more refined and quiet.
‘ve been twice during a week which could prove only one fact - one of the best restaurants in the city. Worth visiting for many reasons, starting with the welcoming: entered the Upperhouse hotel lobby first situated in the neighboring building and the manager not just pointed the right direction but was accompanied to the 1st floor reception of the restaurant itself and what’s more helped find reservation in the list. Lewis, thank you once again for that incredible support. Now to the food. It is Chinese cuisine but selection is so comprehensive and matching both locals and the foreigners. The flavors are sophisticated and delicious. As for the decor and the atmosphere - the design and the staff together make the attendance so stylish, chic and magical. I love this place so much. Highly strongly recommended. *reservation is made only by phone
Very disappointing experience: The food quality, especially for the price was poor, across the board. Chinese food from a standard local restaurant is far tastier. The feel of the place was definitely young, a bit hip, but lacked substance. It has the feel of a place that was trying to be hip while sophisticated/snobby in the process. It accomplishes neither except the snobby air of a stereotypical French restaurant without the great food or generational reputation to back it up. The service was ok to poor. Often I need to leave my seat to ask for things. Staff was more pretentious than fun and friendly.
