Xindalu China Kitchen
Shanghai
Beoordelingen
I made a reservation based on other reviews and I really regret it. When the waitress was trying to open a bottle of sprinkling wine with a corkscrew I felt coming here was a bad idea. We had a Peking duck before at Beijing and the experience today was completely different in the wrong way. Duck was not cut as carefully as expected, additional dishes arrive way too late and they missed one of our orders. Overall cost for this place is not aligned with the service at all.
Located in Hyatt on the bund, this has to be one of the best Chinese food I ever had. I dined alone and ordered a serving of their legendary Peking duck, and a serve of xiaolongbao dumplings. Paired with a French Bordeaux it was heaven. The duck was roasted and sliced in front of you, served perfectly with a range of condiments and flour skins for you to make your own Peking duck wraps. Heavenly ! Ambience and service were perfect. Pricey but money well spent.
It took me a while to get the feel for the Xindalu Restaurant in the Hyatt on the Bund in Shanghai. Too over styled, too many staff, too much show, I felt unsure at the outset. Having watched the chefs in the open kitchen quickly taught me a different story. Serious woman and men at work, preparing fresh dishes from best produce with skill and dedication. The food is very good, there is no doubt about it. A towering wood oven prepared the signature dish of the house, Peking Duck! Simply perfect! My five stars go for the Duck. But their fresh fish and shellfish is worth mentioning as well. Many very innovative offerings are in the menue. Sadly, some of the most interesting dishes were not available. The space is very modern, the many staff are very helpful and attentative! The wine list could be more extensive! Definitely a place to come to! Peking Duck rules supreme!
