This restaurant is dedicated to serving traditional Shanghainese cuisine with utmost care, avoiding fancy modifications or fusion of Chinese and Western styles. They use carefully selected ingredients and precise seasonings, focusing on the essence of local specialties. It has a touch of craftsmanship. The restaurant has a high percentage of Shanghainese customers, including many older ones, indicating that the flavors are appreciated by these long-time Shanghainese. The service is also good; they offer suggestions when ordering and clearly explain the names of the dishes. For our get-together with friends, we ordered: Hand-shredded Four Delights Braised Gluten, Pork Cuttlefish, Shanghai Potato Salad, Secret Recipe Smoked Pork Belly from the East China Sea, Braised Eel Back, Stir-fried Cuttlefish with Salted Vegetables and Bamboo Shoots, Chicken Cubes with Bone and Eight Treasure Spicy Sauce, Old Shanghai Osmanthus Pork, Seafood Rice Crust with Tomato Sauce, Braised Tofu, and Osmanthus Eight Treasure Rice. Every dish was perfectly satisfying. The Eight Treasure Rice is my absolute favorite; even though I was already quite full, I couldn't stop eating it.
Always wanted to try another Shanghainese restaurant - this one was highly rated - weekend booking is definitely recommended. Service is excellent - you can see team work plus attention to details. There were only 3 of us and small portion size was just right. Each dish came in hot on temperature as it should be. We are ready for next visit.
