Description

4-5 hour authentic trip in Shanghai, featuring cooking dumplings and visiting the oldest Buddhist temple in downtown Shanghai, Jing'an Temple. Step into a home-style kitchen in Shanghai and learn to make authentic Chinese dumplings, a traditional Chinese dish. Guided by experienced chefs and an English translator, start by preparing the ingredients, then proceed to knead the dough and craft the perfect filling (pork and vegetable or beef and vegetable). Dumplings are a traditional delicacy consisting of fillings encased in dough, prepared by boiling, steaming, or frying. Their shape resembles ancient Chinese gold ingots or silver bars, which symbolize wealth and prosperity. Therefore, the act of eating dumplings is traditionally believed to symbolize good luck and prosperity. After your cooking class, visit the Shanghai Jing'an Temple, one of the most renowned ancient Buddhist temples in Shanghai. Initially constructed in the 10th year of the reign of Emperor Huai of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period (247 AD), it boasts a history spanning over 1,700 years and is recognized as the oldest Buddhist temple in the city. The total floor area of Jing'an Temple spans 22,000 square meters. The complex is arranged in a traditional front-hall, rear-pagoda configuration, encompassing three principal halls: the Great Buddha Hall, the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, and the Hall of the Three Sages. The temple exemplifies Imitating the architectural style prevalent prior to the Ming Dynasty, featuring a predominantly wooden structural system. Its golden roofs, copper-glazed tiles, and intricately painted decorative elements collectively underscore its solemnity and grandeur. Situated within one of Shanghai’s most vibrant and high-value commercial districts, the temple stands in striking contrast to its surroundings.
