Description
Begin your private tour with pickup from your hotel. Your English-speaking guide and professional driver will take you through Shanghai's most iconic sights — high above the city, deep in the old town, and out on the water — before returning you to your hotel at 6:00 PM sharp. Head to Lujiazui and enter Shanghai Tower, the tallest building in China. The world's fastest elevator whisks you to the Top of Shanghai Observatory on the 118th floors (546 meters). From here the whole metropolis unfolds beneath you: the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Huangpu River's great bend, and the Bund's historic rooftops across the water. On a clear day you can trace the river all the way to the sea — the definitive Shanghai panorama. Cross back to the west bank, where your guide will recommend a restaurant near the Bund — classic Shanghainese cuisine or a quick bite, whatever suits the group. Start your guided walk at the waterfront promenade, looking across at the Pudong skyline you stood on this morning — the towers now shimmering in afternoon light. Then turn to the street: this mile-long stretch is called the 'Expo of International Architecture' because it gathers in one place the grandest buildings of the foreign concessions era — the Fairmont Peace Hotel's copper-green roof, the Customs House with its giant clock, the former HSBC headquarters, and the stately banks and trading houses that line the way. Your guide brings the 1920s 'Paris of the East' back to life with stories of tycoons, spies and the merchants who built modern Shanghai. A short drive takes you into the old city. Behind the bustling bazaar lanes lies Yu Garden, built in 1559 by a Ming Dynasty official as a retreat for his parents. Follow your guide through its winding corridors to the famous Exquisite Jade Rock — a porous Taihu stone that inspired its own legends — past pavilions, moon gates, and ponds of koi beneath ancient ginkgo trees. It is a pocket of perfect calm in the heart of old Shanghai. Walk to nearby Shiliupu Pier and board a sightseeing cruise. From the water, Shanghai reveals itself as a tale of two cities: on one bank, the illuminated heritage facades of the Bund; on the other, the neon towers of Pudong where your day began. Your guide remains with you to point out landmarks as they pass. After docking around 5:20 PM, your driver will take you back to your hotel, arriving by 6:00 PM.Includes
