- Experience Chinese tea culture and learn about differences in flavor and processing
Description
This experience reveals two aspects of Shanghai life often missed by visitors: traditional tea culture and neighborhood social games. It starts with a guided tasting of China’s six classic tea categories: green, white, yellow, oolong, black, and pu’er. An English-speaking guide explains each variety's terroir, flavor profile, and processing methods inside a traditional Shikumen lanehouse, a notable Shanghai architectural style.
Next, you visit a local mahjong parlor where residents regularly gather. This is not a hotel activity but an authentic setting where locals play and socialize. Your host teaches you the tiles, rules, and strategies, enabling you to join genuine rounds and interact with Shanghai’s community.
By the end of the afternoon, you will understand how locals spend their free time and gain a new skill to take home.
