Description
Shanghai Astronomy Museum. Step Into the Universe. The world's largest astronomy museum by building scale. Spanning approximately 58,000 square meters of site area and 38,000 square meters of building area, the museum was designed around the “three-body” structure — the orbits of the Sun, Earth, and Moon. The architecture itself is an astronomical instrument: the inclined oculus window aligns with the solar altitude angle, casting a light patch that moves across the plaza with the passage of time, functioning as a sundial. Three Main Themed Zones. A Complete Cosmic Journey. “Home” places its curatorial focus within the Milky Way. An 18-meter optical planetarium simulates a wild starry sky. Walk through it and you arrive at the “Sun, Moon, and Earth” area, where a 3D-printed Moon model six meters in diameter and a massive screen displaying solar activity imagery await. Meteorites of various types are also on display here. Ascend the immersive “Interstellar Crossing” staircase and you leave the solar system behind. “Universe” unfolds across five themed sections: “Spacetime,” “Gravity,” “Light,” “Elements,” and “Life.” Each offers a different perspective on the laws that govern the cosmos, revealing the mechanisms of celestial evolution. Witness the strange phenomena of gravitational fields, learn about the birth of life in the universe, and grasp cosmic mysteries through a wide range of interactive exhibits. “Journey” traces humanity's long path of cosmic exploration — from ancient wonder and the revolution of modern astronomy to contemporary research. The 1:1 replica of the Tianhe Core Module is the zone's star exhibit. Step inside and experience the real living and working conditions of astronauts in space. High-fidelity models of the Chang'e-5 probe and the Zhurong Mars rover are also displayed here. Special Zones. The Universe Within Reach. “China Asks the Sky” centers on Chinese astronomy, displaying the celestial knowledge system born of Eastern thought. The “Observing the Sky to Mark Time” section introduces ancient Chinese cosmology and philosophical thinking — the unique “unity of heaven and humanity” worldview, records of brilliant celestial phenomena, and advanced calendrical theories. “Voyage to Mars” is an interactive experience set against the story of a rescue mission to a Mars base. Using virtual reality, it simulates spacewalks and planetary exploration. “Curious Planet” is designed for children aged 3 to 8. Through the story of a fictional girl and her alien companion exploring a mysterious exoplanet, it leads young visitors on a cosmic adventure.Includes
