Learn about the evolution of traditional Chinese drama, from the elegant Kunqu Opera—recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage—to the dynamic and visually striking Peking Opera. Engage in hands-on activities such as: 1. Theater character handcrafting – Create your own theatrical mask or miniature props. 2. Visit the Iconic Theater：a historical and cultural landmark in Shanghai’s performing arts scene. Originally built in the mid-20th century, this theater has played a vital role in preserving and showcasing traditional Chinese opera. It is home to the Shanghai Peking Opera Company, where legendary performances have taken place. Afternoon: Exploring Shanghai’s Cultural & Historical Treasures After our theatrical adventure, we head to Longhua Temple, the oldest and largest Buddhist temple in Shanghai. Dating back over 1,700 years, this temple is a living testament to Shanghai’s ancient spiritual traditions. The Longhua Pagoda, an architectural masterpiece, has been a landmark of the city since the Song Dynasty. Next, we will take you to Xuhui Riverside (West Bund), an area that reflects Shanghai’s incredible transformation from an industrial hub to a vibrant cultural waterfront. Once lined with dockyards and warehouses, it has been beautifully reimagined into a scenic promenade that preserves elements of its industrial past while embracing innovative urban design. A stroll along the riverside allows you to see how the city has evolved while still honoring its history.
