I celebrated a birthday dinner here on January 2, 2026, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. Heavenly Jin sits on the 120th floor of Shanghai Tower, currently the highest restaurant in the world, and the journey alone sets the tone. The elevator ride is an experience in itself, a rapid ascent that feels almost surreal. I have previously visited the observation deck, which is actually two floors below the restaurant, but dining above that level adds an entirely different sense of occasion. The dining room is sleek, ultra-modern, and unapologetically futuristic. Some might find the design slightly space-age, but it fits the context perfectly. We were seated by the window, and with that comes the requirement to participate in the tasting menu. We were more than happy to do so, as the menu was thoughtfully composed and clearly designed to showcase both technical skill and premium ingredients. The tasting menu unfolded beautifully over the evening. One of the clear standouts for me was the braised taro with short rib. The beef was exceptionally tender, deeply flavored, and expertly cooked, pairing surprisingly well with the earthy sweetness of the taro. It was refined, comforting, and luxurious all at once. Another memorable dish was the deep-fried sea cucumber preparation. I personally love sea cucumber, though I fully understand it can be a challenging texture for some diners. Here, it was handled with confidence and finesse, delivering crispness outside and a rich, gelatinous interior that highlighted the ingredient rather than masking it. It was also my first time having authentic bird’s nest soup. I found it delicate, subtly sweet, and very pleasant. It felt ceremonial and special, particularly fitting for a celebratory meal. At the end of an already generous eight-course menu, the kitchen surprised me with a massive ball of birthday longevity noodles. The noodles were incredibly fine and delicate, almost like angel hair, and admittedly a bit daunting after so many courses. The gesture was incredibly thoughtful. They even spelled out “Happy Birthday” using carrots on top, which added a charming and personal touch to an otherwise very polished experience. One thing that genuinely surprised me was how quiet the restaurant was. This was a Friday evening with a 7:00 PM seating, yet only a handful of tables were occupied. Given the location, the reputation, and the quality of the cuisine, I could not help but wonder where everyone was. The overall quality of the food was extremely high and easily on par with some of the most acclaimed haute cuisine I have experienced in Paris and New York. From technique to presentation to ingredient quality, everything reflected serious culinary ambition and execution. Experiencing this level of dining, paired with unmatched views over Shanghai, was deeply gratifying. This is not just a meal, it is a destination experience. I would highly recommend Heavenly Jin to anyone looking for a truly special occasion restaurant, whether for a celebration or simply to experience world-class Chinese fine dining at an unprecedented altitude.
We didn’t book the table in advance so they can’t give us table even when there are plenty of empty table. Ended up drinking at their bar, foods can’t be served in this area. But shared common area and W.C. Drinks are expensive, taste so so. But the stunning view makes it worth to sit and chill. Service was good though Spend some time there to enjoy the view
